Costabile Leads UO Foundation in 2005-06

Thomas Costabile of Old Tappan, New Jersey, Executive Vice President and COO of Entertainment Distribution Company was named as Board Chair of the University of Oregon Foundation Board of Trustees. He has been a Foundation Trustee since 2001.

Costabile is a graduate of Manhattan College with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and holds an M.B.A. in Business Administration from Long Island University. Costabile became active in the University of Oregon when he and his wife, Bonnie, moved to Eugene, where he formerly worked as Senior Vice President of Operations for Sony Music Entertainment, Inc., in Springfield.

Costabile also serves as a member of the UO School of Music Advisory Board and the UO Women’s Sports Advisory Board.

As Board Chair, Costabile succeeds Gerry B. Cameron of Vancouver, Washington, Retired Chairman and CEO of U.S. Bancorp. Cameron will serve as Immediate Past Board Chair for the 2005-06 fiscal year.

The Board of Trustees oversees the management and administration of the Foundation and its assets, currently more than $450 million. The Board is comprised of up to 65 members who donate considerable time and effort in the interest of helping the Foundation and the university grow and prosper. The Foundation, an independent, non-profit corporation, receives, invests and distributes funds from private gifts to the University.

Additional members of the Board leadership for 2005-06 include:

  • Board Chair Elect- Robert D. Kraus of Lake Oswego, a 1963 UO graduate, Retired Executive Vice President/Regional Director of Smith Barney, Inc.
  • Second Board Chair Elect- Keith L. Thomson of Portland, Retired Vice President of Intel Corporation
  • Treasurer - Dan Hollingshead of Seattle, a 1969 UO graduate and Managing Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP
  • Secretary - Joseph H. Gonyea II of Eugene, CEO of Timber Products Company

Six new members have been appointed to three-year terms on the UO Foundation Board. They are:

  • Jon P. Anderson of Eugene, President and Owner of Random Lengths Publications.
  • Lorry I. Lokey of Atherton, California, Founder, Chairman and CEO of BusinessWire in San Francisco.
  • Dapo A. Popoola of Rolling Hills, California, UO Class of 1971, Founder and Chairman of Surgilite Medical Group, Inc. in Torrance, Calif.
  • Peter W. Powell of Kirkland, Washington, UO Class of 1978, President of Powell Development Company, Inc.
  • Bonnie Towne of Redmond, Washington, UO Class of 1967, an active community volunteer.
  • Robert F. Turner of Klamath Falls, UO Class of 1968, Executive Vice President & COO of Jeld-Wen, Inc.

Additionally, the Board updated the titles of certain Foundation staff positions including:

  • President & CEO - Karen A. Kreft
  • Chief Investment Officer - Jay Namyet
  • Controller - Donna Reinhart
  • Vice President, Communications & Board Relations - Sheri Farnsworth
  • Vice President, Gift & Record Management - Peggy Schneider
  • Vice President, Information Systems - Donald Healey
