Kraus Leads University of Oregon Foundation in 2006-07

Robert D. Kraus of Lake Oswego, Retired Executive Vice President/Regional Director of Smith Barney, Inc., was named as Board Chair of the University of Oregon Foundation Board of Trustees. Kraus will serve as Board Chair for one year. Kraus has been a member of the Board since 1996.

Kraus, a 1963 University of Oregon Business Economics graduate, was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary and Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He has been an Oregon resident since 1953, grew up in Eugene and moved to Lake Oswego in 1973. Kraus served in the US Army and was a Lieutenant from 1963-1965. After serving in the military, he worked for Smith Barney for 33 years, retiring in 1998. He has served as a member of the Lundquist College of Business Advisory Council and is a member of the Lundquist College of Business Inner Circle.

As Board Chair, Kraus succeeds Thomas Costabile of Old Tappan, New Jersey, Executive Vice President and COO of Entertainment Distribution Company. Costabile will serve as Immediate Past Board Chair for the 2006-07 fiscal year.

The Board of Trustees oversees the management and administration of the Foundation and its assets, currently more than $500 million. The Board consists of up to 65 members who donate considerable time and effort in the interest of helping the Foundation and the University grow and prosper. The Foundation, an independent, non-profit corporation, receives, invests and distributes funds from private gifts to the University.

Additional members of the Board leadership for 2006 - 07 include:

  • Board Chair Elect - Keith L. Thomson of Portland, Retired Vice President of Intel Corporation.
  • Second Board Chair Elect - Gwen Lillis of Denver, Colorado, Managing General Partner, Castle Rock Investments and Chair of The Lillis Foundation.
  • Treasurer - Dan Hollingshead of Seattle, a 1969 UO graduate and Managing Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
  • Secretary - Jon P. Anderson of Eugene, President and Owner of Random Lengths Publications.

Three new members have been appointed to three-year terms on the Foundation Board. They are:

  • Ginevra Ralph - Founder and Principal Director, Oregon Festival of American Music, Eugene, OR. She earned a BA in History in ‘83 and an MA in ’85 Special Education from the University of Oregon.
  • Stacey Squires - Retired Common Sense Co-Director of Research,
    Portland, OR, a firm managing individual hedge funds. She holds a BA degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon in 1992.
  • Colin Slade - Senior Vice President and CFO, Tektronix, Inc., Beaverton, OR. He earned a BS ’77 in Accounting from the University of Oregon.

Four members have completed their terms of service and have retired from the Foundation Board. They are:

  • James W. Bernard – BS ’60 Chemistry
  • Gerry B. Cameron – Former Chair, Foundation Board (2004-2005)
  • Donald E. Tykeson – BS ’51 Business Administration
  • James H. Warsaw – BS ‘06 Business Administration
