Ways to Give

There are many ways to financially support the University of Oregon and a variety of assets that can be used to fund your gift. The best giving plans consider both your desires for how and when the university can spend the money and which of your assets best matches those plans and your financial and/or tax situation. We thank you in advance for your philanthropic interest in the University of Oregon and, in turn, will hold in confidence the details of your giving and other information you provide.

Many assets may be used to fund a gift. Please note, some assets will require additional review and approval before they can be accepted by the Foundation. The most common gifts are:

Cash, Check, Foreign Currency: can be received by the UO Foundation via mail, in person, or through your development officer

Credit Cards: the "Give Now" option on the UO Foundation website. Many university department websites allows for secure credit card gifts and recurring gifts

Securities: can be electronically or physically transferred

Real Estate: improved, unimproved and income producing property can be deeded to the Foundation; leases can be transferred to the Foundation

Life Insurance: the Foundation must be named irrevocable owner and sole beneficiary

Tangible Personal Property: can be received in person to the Foundation when the intention is to sell the property

Gifts may be delivered to the UO Foundation:

Fund Types

All gifts, whether given now or planned for the future, whether a memorial or honorary gift, whether through a community foundation or a corporate match, ultimately support either an expendable fund or an endowed fund. Both expendable funds and endowment funds may be designated for the unrestricted use of a specific department or program.

Expendable funds (not endowed) are immediately spendable monies which are typically donor-restricted for a specific use.

Endowment funds are designed to be held in perpetuity with periodic distributions made available for spending according to the donor-restricted use.

The most flexible and powerful form of support is to designate your gift to the President's Fund. This is an expendable fund that is used at the discretion and priority of the University President to support the most urgent needs of the university.
